I have boarded at the same barn for about six years. The facility is large. There are four arenas for hunter jumpers and two arenas for dressage. There are eight barns full of horses, so it is a lively place. There are a number of stock personalities one finds in this type of facility. There are also a number of unique characters as well.
Lyra is a Hessen warmblood horse. She is competing in dressage at Prix St. Georges and I1 or Intermediare I level. She is a medium bay with very fine skin that is soft to the touch. On the surface, she is not the most beautiful mare, but she has a wonderful quality that I find irresistible. She always greets me by putting her nose to my face and breathing into my nose. The smell from her nose is of chicken soup. My own mother would bring me chicken soup if I had a cold when I was a child. When Lyra does this, I like to call her "Momma, momma" and throw the blanket over her and tuck her into it safe and secure against the rain and cold.
Lyra's breath always gives me a warm feeling. I like to relax with my face against her nose, before I blanket her and breath deeply. I always feel as though I have shared with her something wonderful and terribly tender.
